Static web pages can be updated regularly, but it is a manual process which normally requires a maintenance fee.
Dynamic
If you want to use your web site to show customers' order status, or you want to display your current inventory level you will need dynamically created content.
Dynamic pages are usually designed by using data from a database of some sort. One common use of a database driven site is allowing a company to log in to a special secure page and update prices. "Auction" sites and "Message Boards" are good examples of a dynamic web pages.
